WASHINGTON, D.C.— Upon President-Elect Joe Biden’s victory, the Charitable Giving Coalition (CGC) released the following statement:

The charitable deduction encourages Americans to give more to charity than they otherwise would. By allowing all taxpayers to take a deduction, the temporary universal charitable deduction the CARES Act created earlier this year has already encouraged even more giving. As our country transitions to a new presidential administration, we must continue to encourage this tradition of giving by protecting and enhancing the charitable deduction.

Charitable giving is a time-honored American tradition that is essential to maintaining a healthy civil society. As the most charitable nation in the world, Americans have provided billions of dollars to support a wide range of nonprofit charities. Further, state and local governments rely on these charities as vital resources to help achieve their missions.

We look forward to working with President-Elect Biden and his administration to ensure the value of the charitable deduction is maintained and enhanced to help charitable organizations continue to support their communities and work forces. Now, more than ever, it is critically important to continue to encourage individuals to give back to charities across the country. The charitable sector has always represented a lifeline for our communities, and it is of paramount importance that the new administration prioritizes preserving and expanding this incentive.
